The IRFU appointed Cullen Payne Architects to fit out the mid-level of the original East Stand at Lansdowne Road for use as hospitality suites, in the lead-up to the redevelopment of the grounds.
A corridor was created along the rear of the stand to serve the suites and ancillary facilities, with full height glazing spanning between the precast concrete structure on the east side. A wall of oak veneered panels and opaque glass blocks separates it from the suites and staircases. A glass wall provides views and access from the suites to the Stand and the pitch below. Each suite contains an entrance lobby, an oak bar and toilets. The new lift which is located at the rear of the stand is contained within a fair faced concrete shaft.
As the suites were designed for a short life of three years, material specification tended towards use of recyclable components.
