The site is located at the western end of the campus of St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital and commands a fine view of the valley and hills to the south. Red brick is the dominant material on the campus.

The new nursing home is comprised of two parts: a single storey wing, T-shaped on plan, at the northern end of the site, containing public and service facilities; and a two-storey wing, L-shaped in plan, to the south, containing 50 bedspaces in single and shared rooms with en-suite bathrooms and support facilities.

External walls are finished in a mixture of red brick and self-coloured render to both reflect the character of the existing campus and to offer some visual relief from it; windows and doors are powder-coated aluminium with colour-contrasted infill panels; roofs are profiled metal.

The building is adjoined by three landscaped spaces of different character. Vehicular access and car parking are located to the east, adjacent to the main entrance and a service yard to the north.
