Our client wanted a compact modern house, close to the centre of Greystones. She purchased a semi-derelict house on an overgrown site, overlooked on all sides.
Our design response was to strip out and extend the existing bungalow to form an enclosed south-facing courtyard. The original façade was retained, but re-finished in a monocouche render, which was also used on the extension to tie both together. The living room and kitchen/dining area open on two sides to the internal courtyard, and are sheltered by a stainless steel faced canopy. Beech-faced panels introduce a warm natural material. Planters are recessed in the granite paving to create a herb garden and to accommodate climbing plants.
