The Emergency Department at The Children’s University Hospital saw a significant increase in its workload since the closure of the National Children’s Hospital in Harcourt Street.

The new Department at Temple Street is planned around a central planted courtyard. Clinical areas comprise a triage area, a seven bay treatment room, a six bed observation ward, a three bay resuscitation room and procedure and examination rooms.  These are served by waiting areas overlooking the courtyard and new ancillary rooms and staff facilities. A new bed lift links the public lobby with the new Day Ward on the first floor and provides direct access to the Operating Department on the second floor of the existing building. A new MRI suite adjoins the Emergency Department and serves Radiology nearby.
