Collaboration with Allies and Morrison
The project involves the creation of a new high-density neighbourhood at the confluence of the Rivers Lea and Thames within the historic dockland setting of the Trinity Buoy Wharf and East India Dock in London. This new 2.5 ha development will deliver up to 804 new homes, a new brewery and residents’ club facilities, additional educational space and over 14,000 sqm of retail, restaurants and flexible workspace.
Leamouth was once a focus of the ship building industry which has resulted in a site steeped in a maritime, industrial history. The in-filled graving dock in the centre of the new neighbourhood will become a new public square leading to a riverside path around the peninsula. The architecture is founded on an understanding of London’s historic wharfs, the scale of their buildings and the character of the spaces they create. In keeping with this heritage, the designs embody a contemporary warehouse theme of medium rise brick buildings with pitched roofs together with three new tall buildings, one of which is crowned with a lantern room.
The proposals include a mix of housing typologies from studios to four-bedroom family houses, arranged around yards and semi-private communal gardens.
Cullen Payne Architects participated in the working drawings stage of the project. Our large team focused on the interior fitout of the multiple mid- to high-rise blocks.
