The new blood sciences core laboratory at Letterkenny University Hospital involved the strip out of the existing laboratory and demolition of existing substandard modular buildings. A new extension, constructed in blockwork and rendered external insulation contains a blood transfusion laboratory, blood bank, hospital corridor and on-call staff facilities. The works to the retained areas involved stripping the building back to structure, applying rendered external insulation to enhance the thermal performance, and replanning the interior, which contains the new blood science core laboratory, specimen reception, and administrative areas.
