The MRI and Haematology/Oncology project and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital involved several separate developments. They included provision of clinic rooms to treat malignant Haematology/Oncology, Haemophilia and Related Coagulation Disorders, accommodation for the Haemoglobinopathy and Non-Malignant Haematology service, a 12-bedded Day Care service for Malignant Haematology/Oncology, Haemophilia and related Coagulation Disorders, accommodation for 6 In-patient non-malignant Haematology patients and Offices for 22 Haematology/Oncology staff.

The project also required a new building for Nuclear Medicine including MRI and CT Scanning suites, with a two-storey link to the main hospital block and a new single storey Aseptic Compounding Unit.

The facilities to be provided were highly complex and technically demanding.  They included building adjacent to, and linking with, the Paediatric Oncology Ward, which housed some of the most vulnerable children in the Hospital. Many of these children were immune-compromised and could not be exposed to dust. To minimise risk and to deliver the facilities as quickly as possible, the scheme was system-built. This required careful design to ensure quality buildings and rigorous contract and project management.
