Medical Assessment Unit,
University Hospital Galway
The new Medical Assessment Unit at University Hospital Galway provides twelve new bed spaces, with associated accommodation.
The undercroft of Block 2A at University Hospital Galway was an unpromising site, used as a car park, with low floor to floor height and a myriad of mechanical and electrical services and utilities routed through it. However, as it was close to the centre of the hospital and pressure on space grew, it was decided to adapt it for clinical use. The project was challenging, as all services had to be retained live and it required careful clinical and project management.
