The site consists of a large rectangular field that slopes gently from east to west and is partly bounded by mature trees to the north and east.

The new nursing home is cruciform in plan and comprises two parts: to the north, a one-storey L-shaped wing containing the public and service facilities; to the south, a two-storey L-shaped wing containing 50 bedspaces in single and shared rooms with ensuite bathrooms and support facilities

External walls are clad with a mixture of local grey limestone and self-coloured render; windows and doors are powder-coated aluminium with colour-contrasted infill panels, roofs are profiled metal.

The building is designed to mitigate its impact on the site by exploiting its topography, by dividing the accommodation into wings and by employing mono-pitched roofs to minimise its height, reduce its mass and create an intimate scale to the gardens.
